Snarky iPhone 13 notch-related tweet from September comes back to haunt Samsung following recent Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra leak - Notebookcheck.net

At the time, the post just seemed to be typical teasing from one massive tech giant to another. Android smartphones have witnessed the evolution of ever-decreasing notches to the point that the latest premium devices have under-display cameras (UDC) to banish this unruly blemish, with Samsung promoting the Galaxy Z Fold 3's UDC in the snarky tweet.

But Apple has stuck to its guns with the iPhone - and now the MacBook Pro too - by continuing with its notch usage. At the time, Samsung’s snide "Imagine still having a notch in 2021" comment was already ridiculed by many, and things just got worse thanks to the appearance of leaked renders of the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.

It can be clearly seen that the upcoming Samsung tablet has been fitted with a notch for the front-facing camera. Of course, this will lead to the device having slimmer bezels, which is what OEMs have decided all consumers desire, but these thinner edges mean the selfie camera has nowhere to hide…except in a notch or UDC solution.

There are a couple of ways out of this particular pickle for Samsung: As one of Notebookcheck’s own writers pointed out, the company could just claim it meant “on a smartphone” only, thus leaving other device forms open to receiving a notch. Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is likely to be launched next year, so having a notch in 2022 is apparently better than having one in 2021.
